CEE 416: Wood Structures Design(Elective course for a BSCE degree)
Design of wood structures based on national design specifications and
load and resistance factor design. Lecture 3 hours; 3 credits.

To learn the fundamentals of the design of wood structures.
- Properties of wood (1 hour)
- Working stress design and LRFD methods (3 hours)
- Design loads for buildings (3 hours)
- Design of tension members (2 hours)
- Design of beams (6 hours)
- Design of columns (5 hours)
- Design of Beam-Columns (6 hours)
- Design of plates and shear walls (4 hours)
- Design of connections (12 hours)
- Mid-term exam (1 hour)

This course will enhance the student's
- ability to apply knowledge in mathematics and engineering science to civil
engineering problems,
- ability to develop design criteria to meet desired needs and to design a civil
engineering system, component, or a process satisfying these criteria,
- ability to identify and formulate an engineering problem, to collect relevant data,
and to develop a solution,
- ability to understand and appreciate the importance of professional licensure and
commitment to life-long learning,
- knowledge of current issues and emerging technologies,
- ability to use modern engineering techniques, skills, and tools for civil
engineering design,
